Embird is a multi-functional editing and design management program which you can either use in conjunction with your embroidery software or as a stand-alone editing program. Embird has a great many wonderful functions including design organization, splitting, re-sizing, converting to your embroidery format, editing, text and much, much more. Embird is a wonderful program and once you learn what it can do, you will wonder how you ever managed without it for your embroidery!

There are two parts to Embird Basic – Embird Manager and Embird Editor – both of which are covered in this tutorial. Carolyn takes you right through the program, step by step, beginning at the installation and then into the first screen that opens in Manager. You will learn all the commands and operations in both Editor and Manager and many lessons are provided for you to work through so that you are at ease with the program. Carolyn leaves no stone un-turned!

Included with this tutorial are a number of designs and clipart that have been generously provided by exceptionally talented designers (many from the Secrets of Embroidery web-site) for your own personal use. These design files are included for you to use as you work through this tutorial – teaching you to convert, split, join and customize your designs in various ways.

Please note: Our Embird tutorial was written for an earlier version, but is still relevant for the current version as the basics of the program are consistent. We do have some additional short lessons covering newer features.

Another new addition is the ability to automatically create a JPG ( image file) of selected designs in the Right Panel. The JPG file that is created is a documentation file showing the colors in the design, the file name, the stitch count, the file size and the color changes.

If you wish to create JPG images of your designs, go to the Options on the Menu Bar.
