Creating Stippling and Outline Designs

(for Studio V5 & above)

In this lesson, Carolyn takes you through creating your own stippling in Embird Studio using the Freehand Tool.

Follow along with Carolyn in her usual easy manner and by the end of the lesson you will be confident to create your own stipple designs. These designs can then be used for quilting, home decoration and on garments.

In the second lesson Carolyn shows you how to add an embroidery design – which is included for your personal use in the lesson due to the generosity of Ace Points Embroidery – and then create your stippling around the design.

Embird Studio does have a Motif stitch for stippling, but as it is created in a line form it is not always suitable for the stippled projects that we like to create.

True stippling meanders throughout a design. You will be thrilled at how simple it is to create a stippling pattern which can be used over and over again and then re-sized and changed to suit any project that you decide to create.

Using another method, Carolyn will show you how to create an automatic outline for stippling or outline images. You’ll be amazed at what you can do and this should open up lots of design opportunities for you. You will always look at outline images in a different light.

Included with the lesson is the beautiful Ace Points Embroidery posy design, an image file to use for your stippling practice, plus 3 free bonus Stippling files.

Creating Stabilizing Grids for Designs

(for Studio V3 & above)
A free tutorial for newsletter subscribers from My Secrets.

Have you ever stitched out a design and found that the outline is “off” – away from the edge of the design – leaving a gap between the fill and outline. This can be caused by a number of factors and is not always the result of a poorly digitized design.

Some of the causes can be:

The same direction of fill used throughout the design.
Improper hooping.
Improper stabilizing
A stretchy fabric
In this lesson you will learn how to create a grid in Embird Studio so that you can save it to your machines memory.

Once you have created the grid you will then be able to adjust the size of this grid for every hoop size that you have for your machine and save it in the memory fo your embroidery machine. This way you can “call up” your gird and use it before stitching out any design you wish – especially those with outlines.
