Hope, well known for her romantic take on practical projects, has started a new series of project tutorials accompanied by machine embroidery design files. Each tutorial is designed to outline a new technique using Hope’s fine machine sewing embellishments seen in all her magazine articles. This is a great way to polish up your sewing and embroidery skills. Once you make the project, you can take the techniques and embroidery designs and use them in your own project, quilt or garment. The possibilities go way beyond the project, as this will inspire you to create something totally YOU!
This Australian Windowpane Handkerchief is the first in her series of "Elegant Endeavors". This pretty handkerchief has a sheer teardrop center framed by a band of colored linen with wing needle embroidery stitches that makes it very delicate and dainty. The edges are hemmed using fine machine sewing with a wing needle and purchased tatting is applied resembling hand stitches (but of course it was all done on a machine).
There is also a 5 page tutorial with color step-by-step instructions outlining the following techniques:
-
Preparing linen fabric for embellishments
-
Tricks on hooping in a tight area such as a corner
-
Embroidering a 'faux' Australian Sheer Windowpane teardrop
-
Easy wing needle hemming
-
Mitering a corner (the easy way)
-
How to use Fabric Folding Pen (one of Hope’s favorite notions)
-
How to apply purchased tatting so it mimics hand stitches
-
Properly removing a fabric marker
-
Helpful Hints from Hope on washing and starching your handkerchief
Use all of the techniques and the embroidery design in this tutorial to create a romantic lady's blouse. This Australian Windowpane Handkerchief technique would be beautiful on the hemline of a sleeve.
